Strength. Flexibility. Together. The Roll-A-Ramp is a ground-breaking new concept that will change the way people look at ramps. For centuries ramps have been utilized by millions of people because of their strength. But never before has a ramp been as flexible as the Roll-A-Ramp. Strength Each Roll-A-Ramp is fabricated out of high-tensile strength anodized aerospace aluminum, which allows it to hold up to 2,000 lbs. of evenly distributed weight. Flexibility Each standard section of the Roll A Ramp weighs under 30 lbs. and easily rolls up quickly to be stored in very little space. Ramp pairs used for wheelchair use can be set up to any width to accommodate virtually any wheel span. Safety Each ramp has built-in safety rails, and cambers gently and gradually slopes for an easy, jar-free access. Roll-A-Ramp Model Specifications

Questions & Answers
Question : Does anyone know who I can contact to have a wheelchair ramp built?
I live on a fixed income due to my dissability and cant afford to pay anyone or get a loan to have one built. Any sugestions would be very helpfull.

Answer:
Contact your local Boy Scout Troop. Eagle candidates need to do a service project. They are always on the look out for appropriate tasks. This is exactly the kind of thing they like to do. The only drawback is there is some lag time, because the project needs to be approved by the BSA regional people, before the work can get started. They can fund raise and will work under trained adult supervision. You can even take some satisfaction in that you're helping some hard-working kid achieve a pretty difficult goal.

Question : in oregon what is the minimum slope for a wheelchair ramp?
my mother-in -law is wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life... I want to build her a ramp to allow her husband and 2 sons (they live in the same house) to let her enjoy the clean air and out-of-doors. Is there a recommended slope (inches per foot) for a wheelchair ramp NOT A HANDYCAMP RAMP? She is unable to propel herself but I feel She would bebefit from the air outside...

Answer:
I built handicap ramps for FEMA after Hurricane Katrina and the federal standard then was 1 inch per foot and after each 20ft a landing was to be made for resting whether or not electric or self propelled or someone else was pushing. That standard also went for those whom needing canes or crutches to walk also. Mind you ,now these ramps where built off a deck landing right beneath the door of either a mobile home or travel trailer,so if it was 40 inches from the ground to just below the door;you were looking at 40 ft ramp with the deck landing and the 20 ft rest landing that could be a minimum of 5ftx5FT we had to take into account the width of the chair and height of the person ;in case the rest landing had to make any turns in a different direction. Say perhaps easy access to automobile. We usually used 5/8 4x8 to run the ramp stilted with 2x4 with 15 inch gaps with 2x4 hand rails and floor guide boards.

Question : Wheelchair Ramp-A contractor is building a wheelchair accessibility ramp ?
(see figure) for a business. Using your knowledge of right-triangle trigonometry, help advise him how to create a ramp whose dimensions will meet the specification needed that will allow wheelchair accessibility. Talk about the procedure the contractor will need to follow to find the dimensions of the three sides and the measurements of the three angles. Consider the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in your discussion and provide an example.

Answer:
Basic issue is the maximum safe ramp angle. If you know the height difference then you can find the length of ramp by the following relationship:ramp length = (height change) / sin (ramp angle)suppose the height difference is 4 ft, and safe maximum ramp angle is 10 degree (I don't know this angle is correct, you need to look this up at ADA website). Then the length of ramp is:ramp length = 4 / sin 10 = 23 ft.

Question : Which is the best Indian SUV/MUV for a wheelchair bound person using a rear entry ramp. Kindly advise.?
My son is physically handicapped and confined to wheel chair. I want to purchase a vehicle, which has a provision to put the child along with the wheelchair, using a ramp. Rear entry is preferred to avoid traffic problems.Kindly advise.

Answer:
I think you are missing something. Most wheelchair vans are not rear entry, most are side entry. The major decision is between Full Sized Van (typically rear entry and typically with a lift) and Mini Van (typically side entry and typically ramp) Have a look at the article below and you will see this issue discussed in the section "Minivan versus Full Sized Van". If you anyway decide on Full Sized Van, the most commonly sold van is Ford E-250 as you will see discussed in the article.Good luck!

Question : Does anyone know of an organization that would help pay for a wheelchair ramp for a van?
I have a 9 year old son with cerebral palsy and he's getting too big for my car. I'm in the process of buying a used van, but I'm going to need a ramp put in and I don't have the money to do it. A few people said the Lions Club, or Rotary Club. But, I've never had to ask for money from an organization. I'm just not sure where to start.

Answer:
Another good one is the shriners, they sponser my daughter,5yo w/cerebral palsy. We haven't gotten a van yet,and I'm not sure if they will help.If you buy a new van, both Chevy and Ford have programs that will pay up to 500 and up to 1000$ of the retrofit.I looked for my favorite's links to some site's,but could not find them.Try searching handicap accessible grant.
