Question : Stannah stair lift circuit diagram.?
Does anyone know where I can get circuit diagrams for a Stannah stair lift. I am an electronics engineer trying to repair a stair lift for a disabled relative.Any help would be much apreciated.

Answer:
Dont have a drawing, but i'm a lift engineer and have worked on stair lifts. 1st check you have a supply, it normally charges a battery housed under the chair carriage. If battery fully charged, the most common faults are the safety micro switches which is a series safety chain, they are under the footplate, arm rests etc. also check the stopping limit switches may be fitted behind the chair or top and bottom of the running track, hope this is of some help to you. You could also speak to stannah, they are always very helpful..

Question : Is a stair chair lift installation and it's cost a tax deduction?
My wife couldn't climb the steps to the second floor of our home. I had a stair chair lift installed at a cost of $1600.00. Can I claim it as a deduction on my income tax?

Answer:
Usually that kind of thing counts as a medical expense and is deductible on your Schedule A. Keep in mind that you must itemize to be able to use schedule A deductions. Also keep in mind that there is a floor on your medical expenses--meaning that your total medical expenses (including doctor visits and prescriptions, surgery, etc.) must be at least 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).

Question : operating instructions for a stannah stair lift the lift seems fine but will not work is there a battery?
my daughter has just purchased a house and there is a stannah stair lift fitted to the stairs, everything seems in order but the lift just wont work is there a battery in the chair that requires charging if so how do you charge it.

Answer:
We have a stannah stair lift in the sports pavilion where i work,it does not have a battery in it as according to the stannah engineer it works soley on mains power,if there is a power cut or a fuse blows there should be a manual handle which is inserted in a slot on the side and the chair is wound down by hand.Try checking the mains fuse in the power control box which should be placed on the wall or somewhere adjacent to the chair wall control panel. If this does not work try checking the drive belt which runs the full length of the stairs and then doubles back on itself which provides the moving power via two pulleys. If it is jammed the mechanism will have to be dismantled to either free it or replace it.This is a job which should only be done by a stannah engineer who will also be able to check if there is anything else causing a problem.Look in your local area yellow pages for the contact details of a suitable company to carry out the work

Question : Where can I find a good stair lift?
Hello.I want to get a reasonably priced stair lift fitted in my bungalow. Can anyone tell me a good company and forward me their web site or phone number please?

Answer:
Hello, I'm Dame Thora Hird and I used to advertise Stannah Stairlifts, DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!!!! The only reason I did the ads was because the managing director had certain photo's of me with various gentlemen friends engaging in acts involving a variety of root vegetables! I'll let you in on a secret, this is between you and me though so don't tell anyone else, do you know what powers the stairlifts? HAMSTERS, that's what powers them, the poor little critters are given electric shocks so that they run in there little wheels, transporting people with no bowel control up to their urine soaked beds each night and do you know where these hamsters come from? RICHARD GERE'S house, that's where, as if scurrying in and out of Hollywood stars rectums isn't bad enough!!!!! Oh, one more thing, bungalows don't have stairs!

Question : How much for a stair lift?
My elderly mum has ulcerated legs and for a gift I would like to purchase her a stair lift. She is very in dependant and I know is going to protest, but seeing her trying to get up the stairs is heartbreaking. I was just wondering has anyone out there bought or had a stair lift installed? How much does it cost (not that it matters, it would just be nice to know) and has it made a difference to your life or the life of the person you had it installed for (even if they insisted they did not need one?)Thanks for all answers.whoops independent

Answer:
my mum was very ill when i was younger and we had a stair lift fitted, im not sure of the cost as she had cancer and macmillan payed for it, but it made a huge difference and when i was out doing shopping etc it really gave me peace of mind knowing she wouldn't be trying to walk down the stairs in a frail state, well worth it!

Question : Where might I find grants for the purchase of a stair lift for the elderly?
I am in the process of purchasing a new home and all secondary bedrooms are on the second floor. I take care of my grandmother and she is in denial about her ability. So in order for her to move around the house easily and allow her to be close to my daughter I would like to install a lift system on the stairs. But I was wondering if there are any grants available to assist in the purchase of the lift chair.

Answer:
There are grants available - they are called Disabled Facility Grants and will depend on your Local Authority on how these are carried out. In my area the Local Authority uses a Home Improvement Agency that organise the works to be carried out.Initially you will need to get in touch with Social Services (the Occupational Therapists) in order that they can make a fully qualified assessment of your grandmother's needs and make a recommendation. It can be a long process, but again it depends on the Local Authority.Hope that has helped
