Excel Deluxe Aluminum Transport Wheelchair
Customer Review :
Great product at a great price !
This Medline Transport Wheelchair is a premium product and we like it a great deal - especially the larger rear wheels. The only minor disapointment was its overall width - about 1 1/2" wider than shown in the specifications. The price we paid on Amazon.com was a big plus - about $100 less than if we bought it at a retail store, and at least $40 less than anywhere else "on-line". Shipping was extremely fast (got it in about 4 days).

Question : how can someone suffering from spinal cord injury operate power or manual wheelchair?
how can someone suffering from spinal cord injury operate power or manual wheelchair?
Answer:
It completely depends at what level their spinal cord injury is. Each spinal segment controls a different set of muscles. It is very complicated, but generally the spinal segments in the neck control the arms, (and a really high spinal cord injury would even prevent you from breathing on your own) and your lower back spinal segments control your legs. So if you had a spinal cord injury at L2, you wouldn't be able to move the muscles that L2 moves and down from there. You don't just lose function at that segment such as L2, you lose all function below that point also. Like I said it is very complicated, but generally motor areas supplied by a spinal segment are called myotomes and then sensation is a whole other thing a supply to them is called dermatomes. Here's a site that helps explain it better then I can. Neuro was definitely the hardest class I had to learn to become a physical therapist. Hard, but very interesting.http://www.apparelyzed.com/myo-dermatomes.html

Question : Converting a manual wheelchair into a motorized one.?
I want to convert a manual wheel chair into a motorized one because it could be s cheaper than buying one.Does anyone else think so?If so, do u know where I can buy the conversion kit.I live in USA, but the kit is meant for someone overseas
Answer:
Hi Anna, I toy with wheelchair motors and controllers in my robotic hobby. The parts are cheap enough because there is an abundance of them. What happens is the insurance company [usually Medicare] will buy the power chair for someone who may never even use it. Then the person dies and the heirs want to sell it but can't get much for it because anyone that wants one will also go through insurance. So,that leaves a supply of new units for sale cheap on Ebay. That's probably the best way to get a power chair,at least if you can wait for one nearby to avoid shipping charges.

Question : I am looking for a manual wheelchair that will break down into parts for transport-please help?
I am looking for a manual wheelchair that will break down into parts for transport-please help?
Answer:
Go online to Invacare.com. While WC's can be broken down it is usually only the arms that come off. My parents brought a WC from invacare that only wears about 15 pounds and my 80 year old mother can easily put it in the car. My 86 year old dad is a rather large man and he has no problem with using this WC. It is still stron enough for him to use eventhough it is lightweight. Invacare also has alot more things that help with disabled people.

Question : how to convert a manual wheelchair to a motorized wheelchair?
i saw a lady in a manual wheelchair with a conversion kit which made her wheelchair motorized, you can see the wheelchair is a manual because it has the manual wheels and then you see the additional equipment to make it motorized. i did not think to stop her to ask her, but since then i have wanted to do that to my manual chair......could anyone help, please give me web sites if you know them thanks in advance for yor help
Answer:
These kits used to be pretty common, but everyone I know who made them has since gone out of business.Personally, other than the Wheelchairs of Iowa (Sheldon, Iowa) version, I thought the rest of them were rather a waste of time and money- poor power, low speeds, interfered with manual use, etc.

Question : How much is it to rent a manual wheelchair for a few days?
I live in Toronto Canada, and am interested in renting a wheelchair for a few days. How much would it cost and also, where should i get it? I dont care if it is used.. Thank youPS: I'm really cheap, i dont need it to be in good condition. I just need it for a short part in a film, and it does not need to go fat or anything, and it doesnt need to be very durable.
Answer:
Curt, ask at the hospital, there may be a place that has loners for you to use. That's where I got my wheel chair when I broke my ankle and I had free use of it for over 3 months.
