Easy to haul around

I've bought 3 of these wheel chairs for my elderly relatives who think they are great. Only proplem is you can't take them through rough terrain or else you may bend a wheel, but for normal shopping, going out to eat, etc., they're the best!

This transport chair makes life a lot easier. We are able to include our parent in a lot more activities.

Lightweight, sturdy,

Just as advertised. Great lightweight sturdy wheelchair. Very fast delivery in perfect condition, 5 minutes to put together, and loved by all.

Very satisfied

I am so happy with the wheelchair. It is compact and light weight and especially easy to put into the car.

Excellent Lightweight Wheelchair

I bought this wheelchair after reading all the positive reviews and wasn't disappointed. We had a 27 pound "lightweight" chair that was much too heavy and bulky to lift and fit into the trunk. This chair is so much lighter. The handles collapse and feet are removable, allowing the chair to fold into a compact shape. It also has a drink holder, seatbelt, small pockets on the backside, wheel brakes, and gliding, rollerblade type wheels. It has a wide seat that comfortably fits my 200 pound grandmother, and I bought a 4 inch foam wheelchair cushion to go with it. Overall, the chair seems pretty sturdy. The only thing I question is long-term durability. Time will tell. But I definitely recommend this chair and would buy it again.

Great Chair/Great Price

This is one fantastic transport chair. We have two other chairs from different manufactures that were twice the price but not nearly as functional as the Drive chair. The unit is well constructed, lighweight
and almost indestructable ! The same chair sells for $ 220.00 at a local
medical supply store. One suggestion: purchase an optional cushion for the seat.

Gives my Mom mobility

Drive Medical FW19BL Fly-Weight Transport Chair, 19 Inch, Blue

Chair is light weight and easy to load and unload from the back of my SUV.
My Mom likes it because now she can go grocery shopping with me and can stand up when needed to make selections. It keeps her from being worn out walking all over the grocery store, mall, etc. and best of all, she doesn't feel like she is in a "wheel chair". She says it is very comfortable and as long as she is happy with it, so am I.

Great Lightweight Wheelchair

I bought this for my mother who is mobile, but has trouble walking more than around her apartment. This wheelchair was assembled right out of the box except for the footrest which installed easily. It is amazingly lightweight--easy to put into a car trunk, and also easy to maneuver. I do recommend buying a seat cushion if the user is going to be sitting in it for any length of time. They Fly-Weight chair folds up simply by pulling up the seat. It stands on its own in that position. There is a small pocket on the back of the chair suitable for a wallet, eyeglasses, etc. The arms are padded. My Mom recently attended an all day family event and was in the chair for about 4 hours and seemed comfortable. We did have a seat cushion in the chair.

We are very happy with this a s transport chair. This may not be suitable for someone who needs to be in a chair for long periods of time.

I highly recommend this product.

Great quality - easy to use

We just purchased this transport chair for a recent trip w/ my father. I checked into several medical supply places for a rental and found them expensive. This was perfect - light in weight, easy to pack. The wheels move smoothly and it is easy to push. We found it very convenient - it folded up at restaurants and was light enough for my 83 mother to lift. It really afforded my father access to so many places that he would not be able to go. Also, when he felt like walking, it was easy for him to push and give him some stability. A great purchase.

heavy transport wheelchair

From the other reviews and the price, I was looking forward to this transport wheelchair but I was not happy with it. It was heavy and the back support on the right was broken. I tried to snap it on but it would not hold. This could have seriously injured my disabled dad. The worse part was trying to put all the materials back into the box and ship it. I will pay more for a better and defintely lighter transfer chair.

Drive Medical Economy Transport Chair, 19 Inch, Blue

Thought it would be a little heavy but is light enough to lift into my car. Lets me take my mother-in-law to places that it would previously be impossible to take her to. Overall, a good item to buy.

Served its purpose

I bought this for my mom who visited me for about a month. I wanted her to be able to do some sightseeing without having to cut her outings short due to her arthritis pain. By and large, that purpose was met. The price was right, the chair folded and fit inside the (small) trunk of my car and was light enough for me to lift in and out without much trouble.

The three stars are however due to the following reasons:

1. The seatbelt was missing. Since my mom was due to arrive the next day, I couldn't return it. I tried calling the seller (Amazon itself) but didn't get any help and finally gave up.

2. One of the foldaway footrests would keep coming loose and we'd have to stop several times a day to push it back into position so mom could keep both feet comfortably supported.

3. "Convenient carry pocket" was also missing.

4. The wheels started showing signs of fraying towards the end of the first month of use itself.

All in all, if this were a permanent requirement, I would be hopping mad right now. However, since I didn't need to use it for more than a month, it just about served.

Great Transport wheelchair

We are extremely happy with this wheelchair. It is truly lightweight and easy to fold, store, and carry in our car to take a 93-year-old man where we couldn't take him before. It is comfortable and easy to push with securely locking brakes and adjustable foot rests.

A Great Buy!

Great product, fast delivery!!! Needed a lightweight chair to replace a 43 pound standard wheelchair that seemed to get heavier and heavier to lift out of the trunk as time went on. I was concerned that the smaller wheels would make it more difficult to push my mother up sloped sidewalks, ramps, etc so I ordered this chair which has the larger back wheels. I really don't notice much difference in having to push and I like having the handbrakes for going down ramps. I truly love how lightweight the chair is and how easy it is to lift in and out of the car. I was also impressed with how promptly the item shipped after ordering. I received it within 4 days of ordering!!!

Great wheelchair!

I am very, and I mean very, happy with this wheelchair. It is great!
Light, sturdy and looks great. I purchased this one due to the larger wheels and am happy that I did. It came totally pre-assembled. Just had to attached the footrests. I love the way the back folds down. The chair will stand upright in the back of my Jeep. The product was shipped and received in a very timely manner. This chair was purchased for my daughter. Her old one is about[...] years old, heavy and very ackward to lift. It also had to lay flat in my Jeep taking up the entire rear area.
I am very happy and so is she. She says the chair is very comfortable and
rides great,

Transport Chair

This is a wonderful chair, has saved us a lot of time looking for something that we realy needed.

Shipment was fast. The only thing was, we ordered a burgandy chair and received a blue, which was just fine.

I wish to thank the company, it was just what we needed.

Great wheelchair to travel with

This chair is a huge space saver and so easy to lift in and out of the car. We go it for our mom to save space in the car for our vacation. It made our trip much more enjoyable without fighting a heavy chair and having enough space for everyone's suit cases. It is the only way to go.

I bought one of these chairs recently for my mom. It works just fine when going to the doctor's office, the mall, and anywhere with smooth floors. The seat is wide and lightly padded. The back is also lightly padded and folds down for compact storage. It's very easy to maneuver and is much more convenient than the typical 40 lb. wheelchair.

It's a little sticky when opening. What I do it pull it open halfway then sit on it to pop it open all the way. Closing it up is a lot easier; just pull up on the seat.

I had to adjust the brakes and footrests. The chair came with tools, but mine was missing one of the hex keys.

Shipping was fast although I was sent the wrong color.

My main reason for getting this is the light weight. The description says it's only 14.5 lbs., but that's without the footrests. It's more like 18 lbs. with the footrests.

If you're looking for something lightweight for light to medium use on smooth surfaces, this wheelchair will suit your needs.

If weight is not a major consideration or if you'll be using it often on bumpy surfaces, get the Lightweight Transport Wheelchair/wheel Chair 12" Wheels. I had a chance to test drive this version. It weighs 10 lbs. more but is easier to use on sidewalks and rougher terrain. It also has hand brakes, a nice feature when going downhill. The price difference is minimal.

Questions & Answers
Question : I want to be able to make a normal manual wheelchair go easily on sand any ideas??
Ioften go to beaches with friends but they are always having to pull the chair through the sand...I kno they make those chair for sand but it just ends up being a bigger pain...does anyone have any ideas on modifications that can be made to the chair so it will roll on sand or have you ever heard of anything being done to a normal manual chair to make it go on sand. any information is appreciated.

Answer:
Those looking for optimal performance roll up a notch complete off-road wheel sets, where bigger is better. Based on mountain bike wheels - but with recessed wheelchair hubs and handrims - off-road wheel sets offer full-profile mountain bike rims and tires, providing widths of 2" or more. Going from a 1-3/8"-wide wheelchair wheel assembly to a 2"-wide mountain bike wheel assembly may not read as impressive - but, the performance enhancement is striking. The 2"-wide tires float over soft surfaces into which wheelchair wheels commonly sink; the wider footprint increases stability and traction on uneven terrain; the beefy rims and heavy-guage spokes dramatically increase wheel durability; and, the large, low-pressure tires provide a shock-absorbing ride. From sand to snow to street, off-road wheels simply provide a wider, higher-traction footprint that noticeably improves a wheelchair's ability to negotiate the rough stuff, and stay atop softer surfaces.http://www.wheelchairjunkie.com/offroadwheels.html Read the drawbacks, you may need to change the wheels {width in house} or have 2 chairs. I would get a used chair, class it up with neoprene and put the wheels on it. Be good for the yard too.

I am looking for a manual wheelchair that will break down into parts for transport-please help?

Answer:
Go online to Invacare.com. While WC's can be broken down it is usually only the arms that come off. My parents brought a WC from invacare that only wears about 15 pounds and my 80 year old mother can easily put it in the car. My 86 year old dad is a rather large man and he has no problem with using this WC. It is still stron enough for him to use eventhough it is lightweight. Invacare also has alot more things that help with disabled people.

Question : For folks in wheelchairs: What is the most challenging aspect of living in a wheelchair?
I had my leg amputated last year and have been in a manual wheelchair since then. (My prosthesis isn't fitting properly and I am having delays in my insurance coverage to change that.) My finances are very limited. What are some things I need to know about living in a wheelchair that an average person wouldn't know. Any tips on staying healthy and fit? Any fun ideas to help make it more joyfull? Any practical tips on getting around and taking things from room to room. How to stay comfortable. I live in it most of the time. Thanks in advance for your kind support. :) luvs, :)

Answer:
I am an amputee (result of traffic accident.) I don't know where you live so it is hard to give advice on what's available. Swimming is your best bet for keeping fit. A table on wheels that has sides (nothing falls off in transit) Keep bandaging your stump, eventually the swelling will go down. If you can eventually walk, forget the pain and realise the gain! I have been upright for 24yrs now. It took three years for my compo to pay for the accident and my prosthesis, if you need more advice email me. I am in Australia! There is a free limb scheme here.
