Question : Is it proper to keep telling a person they should get an electric wheelchair?
Some people act like it is such a chore to push me in the manual chair so they want me to get an electric one. I know it is difficult, but some like pushing me, despite the hard work, so I don't think I need one. I also have problems keeping my balance in those when they stop.
Answer:
No, one should not tell this to anyone with special needs. They should respect the fact that one chooses the type of wheelchair they want or need and people should think nothing of it. Those that offer to push you (with your permission and acting) are using good manners, which is kind of like holding the door open and the like. Those that say that you should get an electric one all the time are not using good manners at all or being respectful to you.

Question : Would it be possible for someone in a wheelchair (electric scooter by Amigo) to travel to Orlando by plane?
I want to take my family to Disney World. I use this electric wheelchair (scooter) and I wonder if I could take it with me. I think it would be hard for my wife to push me around the parks in a conventional wheelchair. Do the airlines take this kind of chairs? Are the buses that take you from the airport to Disney equiped to take wheelchairs?
Answer:
Airlines will carry your electric wheelchair or scooter for you as long as it has dry cell batteries and wont leak if it falls over.Plus in the airport they will provide you with a wheelchair and assistance on and off the aircraft if you require, but you need to let them know what you require a few weeks in advance. You can get a wheelchair accessible bus from the airport to the parks / hotels, but again you need to book in advance. The also have taxis that can take a chair.Disney is great for accessablity, they have adapted rooms and all the transport have ramps and lifts, however some of the lifts are only manual chair size. You can also hire wheelchairs and scooters in the actual parks and they are pretty reasonable priced. You can't take scooters on to the rides, but if you need to be in a chiar they will give you one to use.Have fun, its a great place and they are incredibly helpful.

Question : Is it rude for someone in a electric wheelchair to run my feet over?
I feel sorry for handicapped people who are in a wheelchair but sometimes when I am walking by them or if I am on the bus, they would run my feet over with the electric wheelchair and not watch where they are going!!!!! So is that still rude of them?! I don’t care if they are in a wheelchair and handicapped or not, that doesn’t give them the right to not watch what they are doing?! Its called having manners.
Answer:
It's rude if they deliberately did it and even ruder if they noticed but didn't apologise.

Question : how does an electric wheelchair work?
Well my grandmother in Vietnam is becoming really ill and cannot walk herself to places such as the bathroom, so I was wondering in sending an electric wheelchair over there. I don't think that my uncle would want to carry her every single time she need to use the toilet so this should do the job. How do you charge it. Is is like a battery that you can just plug into the wall and charge it?

Question : Does anyone know if you can rent an electric wheelchair or something like it in Disneyworld?
Also, do you know the price? My seventysomething mom-in-law walks short distances only with a cane (like from the car to the house) and cannot go up or down stairs at all due to a bad hip and leg and a previous stroke. She refuses to buy her own wheelchair, but she uses motorized carts in the store for grocery shopping. She has a handicapped license plate also. Is there somewhere close we can drop her off at the park?
Answer:
This is excellent - it is compiled and kept up-to-date by a Disney fan who uses an EVC: http://allears.net/pl/ecv_faq.htmQuoted from this website:"There are at least two companies in the Orlando area that rent medical supplies, including wheelchairs and ECVs. The one I use is Care Medical (www.CareMedicalEquipment.com) Their daily rates are the same as Disney, but they give you a break on weekly rentals. The Advantages to renting from an outside company include: - You can have the scooter anywhere you go; minor parks, off-site, at the resorts, etc.- The scooter is available whenever you need it, not just during park hours.- You are assured of having wheels even when the parks have run out. - You can get a vehicle that meets your specific needs (one that will disassemble to fit in a car trunk, or one that will accommodate a heavy person for example). Disney parks scooters are "One Size Fits All". - Variable speeds - Disney scooters are set at "slow". Disadvantages include: - You must transport the scooter. That can mean waiting for a WDW van or accessible bus, dealing with ramps to the monorails and boats, or getting the scooter into and out of your own car/van under your own power. - Rental scooters are like rental cars. They are most often driven by people who are unfamiliar with them, and they get a lot of rough usage. They can have mechanical problems and leave you stranded. Care Medical has always been great about replacing a defective machine for me - but I only know that because I've *had* a couple of defective machines. *** Where can I rent an ECV or wheelchair at Walt Disney World? And how much does it cost?-- Wheelchairs: $10 per day rental (There is a $100 deposit charged to your credit card per unit rented.); $8 per day Length of Stay rental-- ECV Rental: $45 per day, with a $20 refundable deposit ($100 at Downtown Disney)Disney has a Length of Stay rental ticket for strollers and wheelchairs. With the Length of Stay rental, you make a one-time payment for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting a theme park, show your receipt at the stroller/wheelchair rental location and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait. There is a slight discount when purchasing the Length of Stay rental ticket. The Length of Stay option is NOT offered during peak attendance times, however, such as Christmas. At Walt Disney World Resorts -- Wheelchairs are available in limited numbers for guests at each Resort. Contact Lobby Concierge or the Front Desk for assistance. A $315 Deposit will be held on the guest room account, charged only if the wheelchair is not returned. If you want to guarantee the use of a wheelchair throughout your stay, contact a local rental company."

Question : Can I put a battery operated radio on my electric wheelchair, so I can extend a speaker that is electric?
the extended speaker is electric and i have to wire it in my wheelchair batteries, in other words I want to hear my surrounding without the headphones in my ears all the time
Answer:
Most power wheelchairs work on 2 12vdc deep-cycle batteries, and often have a 'tap' so you can hook up accessories. The thing to remember is that cars recharge the batteries in use, You will be draining the batteries when you listen- so you will be sacrificing range of mobility for music when you could do the music part with a few rechargeable D's or something. If you have a headrest, you can rig a pair of small powered speakers (like computer speakers) on the headrest to help create a 'bubble' of sound for your pleasure, all powered off a few cheap batteries. A rig like this would cost a lot less as well.
